An instructor teaching several students at one time can't focus on your individual needs or ensure that the poses will not further injure or strain you. Home practice without any initial instruction can lead to accidental injuries so practicing yoga at home is not recommended until after working with a professional. A private session makes it possible to create a plan that is appropriate for practicing in the home at a future date.
